Have you met those people who seem to be highly attuned to God’s voice or seem to have a direct line to heaven? Always on the “God told me this. God told me that train?” Endlessly!
I bet we all have at one point in our lives. And if you haven’t, then “those people” is probably you. Hehehehe.
Confession: I lowkey used to envy and somewhat dislike this group of people because “how dare they hear God like that while I am here struggling daily to connect to Him?” What was so special about them? What magic were they employing?
2 Corinthians 12: 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
It is funny that I would be one to quote this scripture coming from a point where I used to wonder what and how God spoke to “these His favorite people”. Rock bottom is an ugly place, let’s admit it. Laden with pain, anxiety, uncertainty, and a whole load of “not nice things”.
But the same things that make rock bottom ugly are the same things that make rock bottom beautiful. When God turns the pain into relief, the anxiety into re-assurance, the uncertainty to hope, and a whole load of “not nice things” into a whole “load of nice things ”
So in my doubt, in my anger, in my confusion, in my anxiety, in my search for “How to hear God’s voice”, God spoke to me.
Yeeeees! I know 🙂
Here are a few realizations I had that I hold dear to date. It may not be exhaustive but I love that through these, I have been able to have conversations with God and to hear from Him. And no, not in the audible deep bass voice from heaven we all imagine :
- God loves silence and speaks oh so much more audibly in silence. So shut it all out.
- God can speak through anything and anyone. From your neighbor to that little kid you wouldn’t give your time of the day to. God speaks through the people around us all the time.
- God can speak to you anywhere: In the bathroom, when walking, when cleaning, in church, or in a restaurant. Anywhere literally.
- God speaks to us through our life experiences. Here’s one truth that is not emphasized enough, nothing under the sun is a coincidence. It’s all crafted out by God for our good and for the glory of His name. Nothing is a coincidence!
- Last but not least – through His good book ” The Holy Bible “. Read it, savor it, find Him, and see Him in your current life.
